While there is currently an oversupply of memory semiconductors due to a sluggish global economy, analog chips for automotive and industrial applications remain in short supply. Lead times for these analog chips can be as long as 40 weeks, compared to around 20 weeks for memory stocks.

The CVD process for SiC wafer epitaxy involves the deposition of SiC films onto a SiC substrate using a gas-phase reaction. The SiC precursor gases, typically methyltrichlorosilane (MTS) and ethylene (C2H4), are introduced into a reaction chamber where the SiC substrate is heated to a high temperature (usually between 1400 and 1600 degrees Celsius) under a controlled atmosphere of hydrogen (H2).

Ultra-wide bandgap semiconductors fall under the category of "fourth-generation semiconductors," and in comparison to third-generation semiconductors such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN), gallium oxide boasts a bandgap width of 4.9eV, surpassing silicon carbide's 3.2eV and gallium nitride's 3.39eV. A wider bandgap implies that electrons require more energy to transition from the valence band to the conduction band, endowing gallium oxide with characteristics like high voltage resistance, high-temperature tolerance, high power capability, and radiation resistance.
