What is isostatic graphite?

2023-11-27

Specialty graphite is graphite with carbon mass fraction greater than 99.99%, also known as "three high graphite" (high strength, high density, high purity). It is characterized by high strength, high density, high purity, high chemical stability, high thermal and electrical conductivity, high temperature resistance, radiation resistance, strong lubrication and easy processing. Isostatic graphite belongs to specialty graphite.

Isostatic graphite has some excellent properties as follows:

1. good heat resistance, in an inert atmosphere, with the increase in temperature its mechanical strength increases, in about 2500 ℃ when the maximum value;

2. Compared with ordinary graphite, it has good uniformity and fine and dense structure;

3. Low coefficient of thermal expansion, good thermal shock resistance;

4. Isotropic, consistent performance in all directions;

5. Strong chemical resistance, can withstand the penetration of molten metal and glass erosion; electrical conductivity, good thermal conductivity; excellent mechanical properties, can be processed into almost any shape of the goods.

Therefore, isostatic graphite is widely used in the production of CZ-type single crystal direct-drawing furnace hot field graphite parts (crucible, heater, deflector, insulation cover, etc.), polysilicon melting furnaces, compound semiconductor manufacturing with heaters, crucibles and other components, rocket ignition poles, excitation poles, nozzles and rudder boards, nuclear reactor core structure, electrode for electrical discharge machining, continuous casting of metal with graphite crystallizers and so on.

The four main molding methods are: extrusion, molding, vibratory molding and isostatic molding. Most of the common carbon/graphite materials on the market are molded by hot extrusion and molding (cold or hot), and isostatic molding is a method with leading molding performance. Vibration molding is generally used to manufacture medium and coarse structural graphite, particle size between 0.5-2mm particle size, generally dominated by di-roasted graphitized products, with a density between 1.55-1.75kg/m³, coarser particles, rougher surfaces, and cannot be used for precision processing. It is mainly used in chemical industry and metal smelting.
