Semicorex carbon ceramic discs are manufactured by the advanced material - carbon fiber ceramic, it is a high strength material even in high temperature.


The principle of vehicle braking is very simple. When the driver step on the brakes, the braking oil in the braking throat will act as the hydraulics media, and it will add the pressure towards to the piston inside the caliper. This act will make the braking pads lock up the braking discs, the friction between them will stop the braking discs to cycle, results in the slow down or stop the car. So the material of braking pads and braking discs will highly effect the coefficient of friction.


In old school way, the braking discs are mainly made of cast steel, but the material is weak performance under high temperature environment. However, when braking, the temperature will be increasing very high, and the coefficient of friction of the cast steel braking will be significant attenuation. It results the short lifespan of the braking, specially for high-speed racing.


Carbon ceramic discs have emerged as a result. What is the carbon ceramic material?


Carbon Ceramic is a dual-matrix composite material, a three-dimensional felt or braid of carbon fiber as the reinforcing skeleton, and a matrix composed of carbon (C) and silicon carbide (SiC).So the material is combined with the advantages of Carbon and SiC, with high toughness, low density, good heat stability, heat shock resistance, high hardness. high abrasion resistance and great oxidation resistance. Under high temperature environment, the carbon matrix can provide buffering and toughness for the heat, to prevent the material to be cracked, it can withdraw at least 1650℃ temperature. The manufacture process involves first preparing a C/C composite material, and then introducing the SiC phase through methods such as liquid silicon impregnation. For example, a C/C preform is first prepared using methods such as chemical vapor deposition or resin impregnation carbonization. Then, the preform is brought into contact with liquid silicon, where silicon reacts with carbon at high temperature to generate SiC, simultaneously filling the pores in the preform. Due to the excellent comprehensive properties, the carbon ceramic discs are widely applied in advanced fighter jets, high-speed rails, racing cars and sports cars, etc, The material can meet the strict requirements of high speed, high load, and high temperature environments in the braking system for these high-end equipment.
