Different types of SiC ceramics

Silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic is a type of advanced ceramic material known for its exceptional properties and wide range of applications. It is composed of silicon (Si) and carbon (C) atoms arranged in a crystal lattice structure, resulting in a hard and strong material with excellent thermal and electrical conductivity.

 

Due to its outstanding properties of high thermal conductivity and hardness, SiC ceramic finds applications in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, energy generation and storage, electronics, defense, and many others. It is used in components like bearings, seals, nozzles, cutting tools, heating elements, sensors, and armor materials.

 

It's worth noting that SiC ceramics can be produced through various manufacturing methods, including recrystallized (RSiC), reaction sintered (RBSiC), pressureless sintered(SSiC), Si3N4 bonded (NBSiC) and oxide bonded (OSiC). Different fabrication techniques yield different grades of SiC ceramics with varying microstructures and properties to suit specific applications.

 

Recrystallized silicon carbide with SiC coating has high purity and is a good choice to do semiconductor components, such as wafer boats, cantilever paddles, etc. Reaction-sintered silicon carbide and pressureless silicon carbide are suitable for making mechanical parts, like seal rings, bushing and bearings, etc. Nitration bonded and Oxide bonded silicon carbide is not generally used in the semiconductor industry, they are good to do kiln furniture.
